Demands to deliver a protest note to the Turkish ambassador to Iraq
MP Haider Al-Salami called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday to summon the Turkish ambassador to Iraq and hand him a memorandum of protest over the statements made by the leader of the Turkish Victory Party regarding Kirkuk and Mosul. Al-Salami stated in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that "the statements made by the leader of the Turkish Victory Party (Ümit Özdağ) are provocative and undermine Iraq's sovereignty and security. He claimed that Mosul and Kirkuk were part of Ottoman lands and that they represent a national issue for Turkey. He also called for their return to Turkish territory, which constitutes a violation of the United Nations Charter and international law."
