Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and former CIA Director David Petraeus stressed the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region.
A statement issued by the Kurdistan Region Presidency stated, "This afternoon, Monday (October 13, 2025), Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with David Petraeus, former CIA Director and a long-time friend of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, to discuss the general situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and developments in the region."
The two sides agreed on "the importance of US relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as allies bound by shared strategic interests, and able to enhance their joint cooperation in many different fields," according to the statement.
In another aspect of the meeting, they emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region.
In this regard, they highlighted the role of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in helping build bridges of communication and bring together common interests in the region through cooperation in the energy and economic sectors.
According to the statement, the meeting addressed the peace process in Türkiye, the situation in Syria, and the dangers of terrorism and the threat posed by ISIS.
