The Ministry of Communications announced today, Sunday (October 19, 2025), a ban on the Roblox game within the country, based on rulings by the Federal Supreme Court.
The ministry's statement stated that the ban decision came "after extensive study, driven by the Ministry of Communications' commitment to protecting societal security, preserving the moral and educational values of families and children, and maintaining the safety of internet users in Iraq."
The statement explained that field monitoring revealed that the game posed several security, social, and behavioral risks, including the ability to communicate directly between users, which exposes children and adolescents to attempts at exploitation or electronic blackmail.
The ministry noted that some details of the game contain scenes and behaviors that contradict societal values and traditions. It also facilitates the spread of fake links and unofficial platforms claiming to offer in-game rewards, which are used to steal data and personal information and mislead users into making repeated in-game purchases, causing financial burdens for Iraqi families.
In its statement, the ministry warned of the increasing incidence of digital addiction and social isolation among young users as a result of excessive use of the game.
The ministry also affirmed in its statement its continued monitoring and surveillance of applications and electronic games that may violate moral values or threaten the safety of users, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
Mansour Ali, Assistant Undersecretary of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior for Police Affairs, told Rudaw Media Network that "in the coming months, electronic games such as PUBG, Fortnite, and Roblox will begin to be banned and suspended, as they have become a threat to social security and a waste of the money and time of children and adolescents."
Mansour Ali indicated that "the ban on these games will be based on Law No. 2 of 2013, which prohibits the import, production, dealing, and sale of games that encourage violence and fireworks that threaten security."
