Oil Ministry: Initial toll from Zubair fire: One employee dead, four others injured
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced the death of one employee and the injury of four others, according to a preliminary toll, as a result of a fire that broke out at the Zubair warehouse in Basra Governorate, following a leak in one of the gas systems.

The ministry said in a statement on Sunday (October 26, 2025), "At 9:15 a.m., a leak occurred in one of the gas systems at the Zubair 1 warehouse, specifically in the warehouse's old pumping system, resulting in a fire in the pumping system."

It added that "safety and firefighting personnel in the oil sector, Basra Governorate, and all supporting agencies were immediately mobilized to control the fire," noting that "the fire area was partially contained, while efforts are still ongoing to fully extinguish the fire."

The ministry continued, "Initial statistics indicate one death of an employee at the Basra Oil Company, and (4) injuries," explaining that "such incidents require time to fully control and extinguish them."

The statement concluded by saying, "The public will be informed of developments later."

It is noteworthy that a fire broke out at an oil site in the Al-Zubair district, at the "Al-Burjisiya" site in Basra Governorate.

The Basra Civil Defense Directorate announced that its teams had begun extinguishing the fire at the Al-Burjisiya No. 1 site in the Al-Zubair district.

It indicated that the fire was caused by the explosion of a turbine.

It added that "the incident caused a massive fire," explaining that "Civil Defense teams are continuing to extinguish the fire, as the fire has been contained, prevented from spreading, and fully controlled."
