Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Saturday the government's commitment to developing cooperation with the United Nations and ensuring the success of the upcoming elections.
Al-Sudani's media office stated in a press release that the Prime Minister received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Iraq, Mr. Mohammed al-Hassan, on Saturday.
The meeting reviewed the overall cooperation between Iraq and the programs of the international organization operating in the country, as well as the measures taken by the government and its executive bodies to fulfill the requirements for holding the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The Prime Minister emphasized to Mr. al-Hassan that the government is keen to develop relations with the United Nations, even as the UNAMI mission concludes its work in Iraq. He stressed the government's continued commitment to pursuing cooperation within the framework of UN-sponsored development and economic programs, in addition to working diligently to ensure the success of the elections and providing support to the Independent High Electoral Commission so that the results truly reflect the will of the Iraqi people.
