Iraq hands over a new batch of Kuwaiti archives
The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a new batch of Kuwaiti archives and Amiri archives to the Kuwaiti side.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 3, 2025, the Ministry said that "Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, Shorsh Khalid Saeed, headed the Iraqi delegation during the handover, which included academic and cultural materials and documents belonging to official Kuwaiti institutions."

The statement added that "the materials, numbering approximately 400 boxes, were prepared and transported according to the procedures agreed upon by both sides. The handover ceremony took place at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, in the presence of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Ambassador Mohammed Al-Hassan."

During the ceremony, Undersecretary Shorsh Khalid Saeed affirmed that "Iraq is committed to implementing all relevant international resolutions," noting that "Iraq is determined to turn the page on the past and erase the effects of the previous era. He emphasized his resolve to resolve the issue of the Kuwaiti archives and Amiri archives in a way that strengthens mutual trust between the two countries."

He noted that "Iraq has exerted significant efforts in coordination with its brothers in the State of Kuwait and has achieved tangible progress on this issue," adding that "joint meetings between the two sides are ongoing and characterized by cooperation and positivity."

For his part, Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations, Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, expressed his appreciation for Iraq's diligent efforts regarding the Kuwaiti property issue, commending the positive role of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in following up on this matter.

In turn, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mohammed Al-Hassan, described the handover ceremony as a landmark day in Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations and the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the two brotherly countries. He pointed out that the best relations are those between neighboring countries, especially between Kuwait and Iraq, and the strong bonds and good relations that unite the two brotherly peoples.

The statement added that "this step confirms Iraq's commitment to international resolutions and embodies its keenness to build strong relations with the State of Kuwait based on trust, cooperation, and respect for mutual obligations."
