The tram line on Rashid Street is scheduled to open in the middle of next month.
The Baghdad Municipality announced that it will inaugurate the tram line project on Rashid Street in the middle of next month, as part of efforts to revitalize the capital's heritage landmarks and develop its infrastructure.

The municipality's official spokesperson, Uday al-Jundail, stated that "engineering teams have begun installing the tram tracks on the first section of Rashid Street, extending from al-Maidan Square to the al-Rusafi statue." He noted that the tram line will be a unique mode of transportation, combining travel within the pedestrian-only street with the enjoyment of the beautiful facades of important heritage buildings on both sides.

He added that "the Rashid Street development project, implemented in cooperation with the Association of Banks and other supporting entities, is part of a comprehensive plan to revive the capital's rich architectural heritage by modernizing its infrastructure. This will restore the street's symbolic status as one of the most important heritage streets with historical significance worldwide, in addition to its role as one of Baghdad's most important historical and cultural centers."

He affirmed that "work is progressing at an accelerated pace to complete all phases of the project following the completion of the pilot models, ensuring the revitalization of Rashid Street in a manner befitting its historical and cultural significance in the heart of the capital."

In the same context, he mentioned that "engineering teams have begun rehabilitating four heritage buildings along the section extending from the Al-Rusafi statue to the Abu Nawas area. These privately owned buildings were selected as initial models for the comprehensive reconstruction process that will later encompass the entire street."
