Türkiye plans to explore for energy resources in deep waters off Somalia.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said his country will send an exploration vessel to Somalia in February to carry out its first offshore deepwater energy exploration project.

He stated that the operation, to be conducted by the vessel Cagry B, will focus on offshore areas in Somali waters, but he did not provide details about the targeted reserves or the size of the investment.

Turkey signed an energy exploration agreement with Somalia in 2024.

Ankara is seeking to diversify its energy sources, reduce its reliance on imports, and invest in exploration both domestically and internationally.
