The widespread Facebook platform is seeking to make major changes, aiming to maintain its users and prevent them from moving to competing social media platforms such as TikTok.
These changes appear remarkably similar to Facebook's transformation into a version of TikTok, with Facebook chief Tom Allison announcing that the platform will begin testing a "reimagined experience" later this year, where a group of users will be put into "full-screen video mode immediately upon opening the app."
Meta did not share examples of what its new experimental interface will look like, but it explained that the initial launch will be in countries where there is a strong preference for visual content, with the possibility of expanding to the United States next year.
These tests come after Facebook noted that “video is where conversations happen, communities form, and even commerce happens,” putting Meta's original social media platform at risk of being left behind.
