Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi commemorated on Friday, July 31, 2026, the 43rd anniversary of the Ba'athist regime's genocide against the Kurdish national movement, emphasizing that these crimes failed to break the will of the Iraqi people, who reject tyranny and dictatorship.
In a tweet on the "X" platform, al-Zaidi stated, "The memory of the Ba'athist regime's genocide against the Kurdish national movement, perpetrated against the Barzani family, is now etched in the minds of our Iraqi people in general, and our Kurdish people in particular. This genocide was part of a series of repressions and attempts to crush Kurdish identity, including the creation of mass graves and the spreading of terror, all of which ultimately failed to break the will of our Iraqi people, who reject tyranny and dictatorship."
He added, “As we offer our condolences to our Kurdish people, and to the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, foremost among them Masoud Barzani, on this painful occasion, we express our pride in those great sacrifices that, along with the sacrifices of Iraqis from all components, contributed to the dawn of freedom and the establishment of our federal democratic system in which everyone enjoys constitutional rights, dignity, and respect,” stressing “the continuation of sincere national work to confront all challenges, for the sake of a strong, free, and fully sovereign Iraq.”
