The Ministry of Interior announced on Saturday that an officer and several personnel have been referred for investigation following an assault on a female detainee inside a police station in Diwaniyah.
In a statement, the Ministry said that the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, Hussein al-Awadi, directed that immediate legal action be taken against an officer and three personnel for assaulting a female detainee inside a police station in Diwaniyah Governorate. He emphasized that the Ministry will not tolerate any violation of human dignity or any breach of the law.
The statement added that he also directed that those involved be referred to the competent investigative and judicial authorities and that the strictest legal and administrative measures be taken against anyone found to be involved. He stressed that such actions do not represent the principles of the Ministry of Interior or the ethics of a police officer.
According to the statement, the Senior Undersecretary affirmed that the Ministry is committed to holding accountable anyone who abuses their authority or violates citizens' rights, and that the law will be applied to everyone without exception.
The Ministry of Interior takes action against those who assaulted the detainee at one of the police stations in Diwaniyah.
