The Federal Integrity Commission announced the arrest of a local official in Kirkuk Governorate for extorting money from citizens and contractors in exchange for processing transactions related to her official duties.
The Commission explained that it formed a team from its Kirkuk Investigation Office to investigate information it received indicating that the head of the Operations Department at the Kirkuk Water Resources Directorate was extorting money from clients and investors.
The Commission added that the team investigated the information and, after obtaining a warrant from the Kirkuk Investigation Court judge specializing in integrity cases, set up a sting operation. The accused was caught red-handed receiving a sum of money. In exchange for organizing a “non-conflict” document related to the establishment of an investment project for closed fish farming, the operation also resulted in the seizure of books and documents related to the same project.
