The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, conducted a field visit to the Rabia border crossing in Nineveh Governorate on Saturday to assess the current operations and identify key needs and obstacles affecting the smooth flow of work and trade. He emphasized that the Rabia crossing is a vital artery for trade between Iraq and Syria.
A statement issued by the Authority and received by Iraq Times Agency indicated that "the visit included inspecting the various sections of the crossing, including the exchange areas, inspection areas, passport control, and scanners, as well as reviewing the procedures for the entry and exit of goods and passengers. A meeting was also held with the crossing's management and representatives of the departments operating there to discuss the most significant technical and logistical challenges hindering operations."
During the visit, Al-Waeli stressed "the necessity of expediting the resolution of priority needs, in coordination with the Governor of Nineveh, to contribute to the development of the crossing, in accordance with the directives of the Prime Minister, and to enhance trade and transit at the Rabia border crossing." He stressed that “developing the crossing will contribute to doubling its capacity and improving the level of services provided to traders and travelers,” noting that “the Rabia crossing is a vital artery for trade exchange between Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic.”
