The US State Department has notified Congress of plans to transfer US weapons systems currently located in Turkey to Ukraine, in a deal that includes 12 M270 MLRS rocket launchers, Atakams missiles, and thousands of rounds.
This information comes from official congressional documents reviewed by news agencies. One document states that the deal includes the permanent transfer of 12 MLRS launchers, 2,524 M26 unguided rockets equipped with dual-use cluster munitions, and 47,000 203mm M509A1 rounds equipped with dual-use cluster munitions to Ukraine. Another deal involves the transfer of 70 Atakams and M39 missiles.
The transfer is planned to be carried out through Turkish private companies such as MKE, ASFAT, and ARCA Savunma, as well as the Bulgarian private company VTIC International Ltd., and the US private companies Pansophico and Patriot Defense Group. This is part of a US strategy to bolster Ukrainian military capabilities amidst ongoing hostilities with Russia. Russia believes that arms supplies to Ukraine are hindering a settlement and directly involving NATO countries in the conflict, describing it as "playing with fire".
