Between weather maps and sky indicators, signs point to a rainy season in Iraq that may bring much-needed abundance. Meteorologist Ali Al-Jaber Al-Ziyadi predicted on Sunday (August 9, 2026) that Iraq will experience a remarkable winter rainy season, with chances of rainfall exceeding average levels in various parts of the country.
Al-Ziyadi stated, "All forecasts and long-range weather maps indicate positive signs for a remarkable rainy season, during which rainfall amounts may exceed average levels in several Iraqi cities."
He added, "The growing El Niño-Modoki Super phenomenon this year, and its continued effects until late winter, may contribute to periods of high humidity and the intensification of rain-bearing low-pressure systems at close intervals, starting in the autumn months, particularly October, November, and December."
He explained that "some of these weather systems may be accompanied by heavy rainfall, in addition to the possibility of cold waves during the middle of winter."
Iraq is poised for a winter season that will bring back memories of abundance... rainfall above average.
